We picked this car up in the
summer of 1996. A friend of our son's was selling the car.
Purchase price was $2100.00, and the car was fully driveable.
Modifications to date include a
1600cc four cylinder engine and automatic transmission from a 1982
Chevette. The engine and transmission dropped in with very little
modification, and the shifter and console from the Chevette was
used. This was done previous to us purchasing this car.
We've re-done the interior,
making it look close to factory, but with a more colour coordinated
scheme. The inserts are a "hound's tooth" pattern, grey,
with a touch of salmon. The rest is salmon coloured vinyl. The
door panels are salmon and white vinyl, following the factory
scheme.
The seats have
been slightly "dished", almost like a bucket seat. This
was done to make the car more comfortable on long drives.
To
finish it off, a deep burgundy carpet was used, and a spare tire
cover was made using salmon and white vinyl.
For future modifications, we are
considering a 2.5 litre Chevrolet 4 cylinder throttle-body
injected engine with an over-drive automatic transmission, or a
slightly modified B20 Volvo 4 cylinder engine, with an
Aisin-Warner 3 speed automatic transmission. Disk brakes on the
front are a must, and we may even go with 4 wheel disk brakes. Any
brake suggestions would be appreciated.
